This seminar offers practical strategies, legal guidance, and insights on best practices for public works contracting in California including:
Understanding and optimizing alternative project delivery methods such as design-build
Analysis of contract terms, laws and procedures unique to public contracting including securities in lieu of retention, “or equal” materials, no damage for delay, the Spearin Doctrine and more
Legal and practical analysis to assist public entities and contractors in avoiding mistakes in the bidding process and understanding bid protest rules
Identification of common pitfalls for contractors to avoid in order to submit a successful bid

The Program Chair: Barbara Gadbois, LEED AP, has been a partner with Gibbs Giden Locher Turner Senet & Wittbrodt LLP since 1993. She concentrates her practice in the development and management of construction projects including the drafting and negotiation of bid and contract documents, procurement issues, public works, competitive bidding requirements, bid protest issues, prequalification, project delivery methods, including design-build projects, risk allocation in contracts, claims avoidance and project closeout.
