Program Description
SB 189 was enacted in September 2010, making a number of significant changes to the Mechanics Lien Law. Some of the provisions took effect in January 2011 and others on July 1, 2012. While SB 189 relocated and renumbered the Mechanics Lien Law, many of the provisions remain substantively the same. This program will examine what has changed and what hasn’t changed as a result of SB 189 and will address the procedural demands of mechanics liens for both owners and claimants, as well as efficient methods of settlement. Alternative remedies such as stop notices and bond claims will also be discussed, in addition to procedural and substantive law applicable to public projects.
